Workshop: Mapping STS at Exeter
Workshop mapping and planning for Science and Technology Studies (STS) research at University of Exeter
Science and Technology Studies (STS) research at Exeter is flourishing. Via the simple act of gathering to share lunch, scholars from departments across the university have started exploring each other's research, covering a multiplicity of topics. But what actually is STS for us? What connects us? For some, STS is a discipline impossible to define; for others a set of theoretical and philosophical positions; still others see it as a field of study and site of interdisciplinary experimentation.

Event details
In this workshop, we will explore these questions, in relation to our own work, research communities and networks, with the following aims, addressed across three sessions:
- What's your STS? (Exploring the diversity of STS(-related) research at Exeter)
- What is STS for? Opening dialogue across strands of STS thought
- How do we come together? Exploring intersections, shared dispositions, points of unification and next steps.
To participate in the workshop, please bring an object that connects with your STS conceptually, methodologically or topically, and come prepared to talk for 3 minutes about these connections (no need for slides!). This will be followed by a panel discussion with Exeter colleagues who have been asked to look beyond their individual research and situate our work in relation to the wider field. We conclude with a general discussion about how to we can come together and the possible futures for STS at the university.
The workshop is open to colleagues (postgraduate researchers, postdocs, academic staff) working in or with STS across the University. Please join us for the day to map out who, what, where and why STS happens at Exeter - in our research, teaching and public scholarship; explore how we can come together; and where we will go next.
